“Just Like The Choirs On The Telly!”
This was a surprised comment from a delighted member of the audience attending their first Stourport Choral and Operatic Society concert.
“A Night at the Movies” was the inspiration of new musical director, Alastair Elliot, and further expanded the variety of superb music performed by the choir. Alongside classics such as Mozart’s Lacrymosa and Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves by Verdi was added exciting new modern music, including medleys from the James Bond film series and Mamma Mia. Choral arrangements of My Heart Will Go On from Titanic and the recent number one hit, Hallelujah were also included.
Following the success of “A Night at the Movies”, came the excellent “AMERICA!” which, once again, catered for every musical taste. Gershwin pieces, Barber’s Agnus Dei, and classics such as My Way and Bridge Over Troubled Water featured in this memorable concert.
Next, “Best of British” will contrast an arrangement of the 16th century melody Greensleeves with up-to date songs by Coldplay and Take That.
Television programmes such as Last Choir Standing have recently increased the popularity of choral singing, bringing enjoyment to a much wider audience. Many more people of all ages have already been encouraged to join choirs and experience the thrill of performing.
So, if you would like to be in a choir, “Just like the ones on the telly” why not come and join us?
WE LOOK FORWARD TO WELCOMING YOU!
